PDF to Text

Upload a PDF and get its text, page by page, to copy or download as a .txt file. Works on PDFs that contain real text; scanned pages need OCR, which is not supported yet. Files are processed on our server: the upload is deleted as soon as extraction finishes and the text file is deleted after one hour.

How to use PDF to Text

  1. Choose a PDF. Pick one PDF file up to 25 MB.
  2. Extract. Click Extract text and wait for it to finish.
  3. Copy or download. Copy the text or download it as a .txt file.

Formats, limits and privacy

  • One PDF up to 25 MB and 2000 pages.
  • Only real text is extracted; scanned pages need OCR, which is not supported yet.
  • Layout such as columns and tables is not kept; you get the text in reading order as the PDF stores it.
  • The text file is deleted one hour after it is created.
Privacy
Your files are uploaded to our server for processing. Uploads are deleted as soon as processing finishes, and results are deleted after one hour.

Troubleshooting

No text was found

The PDF is probably scanned images. Run it through OCR software first, then extract the text.

Words run together or are in the wrong order

The PDF positions letters individually rather than storing words in order. Copying from a PDF reader may work better for that file.

Some characters come out as symbols

The PDF uses a font without a proper character map, so the text cannot be decoded reliably. OCR is the only fix for such files.

Frequently asked questions

Why is no text found in my PDF?

The PDF is probably scanned images of pages. Extracting text from images needs OCR, which this tool does not do yet.

Are my files stored?

Only briefly. The upload is deleted as soon as extraction finishes, and the text file is deleted one hour after it is created.

Can I extract text from a password-protected PDF?

No. Remove the password from the file first.
