Unix Timestamp Converter

Convert between Unix time and human-readable dates in both directions. Paste a timestamp in seconds, milliseconds, microseconds or nanoseconds (detected automatically) or a date like 2024-03-15 14:30:00, and see ISO 8601, UTC, your local time and a relative description. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use Unix Timestamp Converter

  1. Enter a value. Type a Unix timestamp or a date, or click "Use current time".
  2. Adjust if needed. Set the number unit or the zone for dates without one.
  3. Copy a result. Copy seconds, milliseconds, ISO 8601, UTC or local time.

Example

A timestamp in seconds, auto-detected.

Input

1710504000

ISO 8601

2024-03-15T12:00:00.000Z

Entering the date 2024-03-15 12:00:00 with dates read as UTC gives back 1710504000.

Limits
  • Dates from about 271,821 BC to 275,760 AD, the range JavaScript dates support.
  • Times are shown to the millisecond; finer microsecond or nanosecond digits are dropped.
  • Leap seconds are not counted, as in Unix time itself.
Privacy
Everything happens in your browser. Your input is never uploaded to a server.

Troubleshooting

The date is in 1970 or in the far future

The unit is probably wrong. A 13-digit value is milliseconds and a 10-digit value is seconds; set the unit explicitly if auto-detect guesses wrong.

The time is off by a few hours

A date typed without a zone is read as UTC by default. Switch "Dates without a zone are" to "My local time", or add an offset such as +05:30.

My database shows a different value

Some databases store local time without a zone. Convert it to UTC before comparing it with a Unix timestamp.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Unix timestamp?

The number of seconds since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970 (the Unix epoch), not counting leap seconds. Many systems and APIs also use milliseconds, microseconds or nanoseconds since the same moment.

How does it tell seconds from milliseconds?

By size: values below 100 billion are read as seconds, below 100 trillion as milliseconds, below 100 quadrillion as microseconds, and larger values as nanoseconds. If your value sits near a boundary, choose the unit explicitly.

Which time zone is used for a date without one?

UTC by default. Switch "Dates without a zone are" to "My local time" to read them in your browser's zone. A date that includes Z or an offset such as +05:30 always uses that zone.

What is the Year 2038 problem?

Systems that store Unix time in a signed 32-bit integer overflow on 19 January 2038 at 03:14:08 UTC. This tool uses 64-bit-safe arithmetic, so dates beyond 2038 convert correctly.
